A Lagos-based Christian mission community born from one act of obedience beneath a bridge.
It Began With One Decision to Go
On the evening of July 13, 2024, Rev. Emeka Eze was conducting his usual evangelism near Jakande Market in Lagos when he noticed people sleeping beneath the bridge. It was not the first time he had seen homelessness or human suffering — but that evening, something stayed with him.
The following morning, he felt strongly impressed that there were people who needed to hear what God had entrusted to him. So he took a speaker beneath the bridge and held a simple worship service.
"I did not have a strategic plan. I did not have funding. I did not have a ministry blueprint. I simply wanted to be obedient."
People came. People listened. People prayed. People returned. Relationships formed. Discipleship began. Lives started changing.
What began beneath one bridge on July 14, 2024 — The Bridging Church's founding date — has grown into a multifaceted ministry reaching the homeless, the incarcerated, vulnerable children, and underserved communities across Lagos State.
The Problem We Are Addressing
Lagos is home to millions of people living at the margins of society. Under bridges, on the streets, in correctional facilities, and within underserved communities are men, women, and children who often remain unseen — not only by society, but sometimes by the Church itself.
Many face a combination of homelessness, poverty, addiction, incarceration, family breakdown, unemployment, trauma, and social exclusion.
The Bridging Church was born out of a simple but profound conviction: no one should be beyond the reach of the Gospel.
Some people will never enter a church building. The Church must go to them.
Prison walls do not limit the grace of God. We go in.
The streets are a mission field, not a waiting room.
Young people deserve guidance before cycles of poverty become permanent.
Mission, Vision & Calling
The Bridging Church exists to take the person and message of Jesus Christ to those most neglected by society and institution — under bridges, in prisons, on streets, and in schools across Lagos, Nigeria. We pursue whole-person restoration through integrated ministry: spiritual formation, social welfare, skills development, and community reintegration.
To see Christ-centered communities established among the forgotten and marginalized, where lives are transformed through the Gospel, restored through discipleship, equipped for purpose, and empowered to become agents of transformation in their own communities.
At The Bridging Church, we believe transformation is a journey, not an event. Our model addresses both spiritual and practical needs through a pathway of restoration rooted in the Gospel.
Eight Convictions That Shape Everything We Do
These values are not aspirations for the future. They describe how we work today.
Christ-Centered Mission
Jesus Christ is the foundation, message, and model of everything we do. True transformation begins with reconciliation to God through the Gospel.
"We do not merely offer services; we bring people to Christ."
Presence Before Programs
Ministry begins by showing up. Before strategies, budgets, and structures, there must be a faithful presence among the people we are called to serve.
"The Church must go where Christ would go."
Dignity for Every Person
Every human being bears the image of God. We refuse to define people by where they are today, regardless of their circumstances or social status.
"No one is beyond the reach of God's grace."
Word and Deed
The Gospel must be both proclaimed and demonstrated. We preach Christ boldly while responding to practical needs through compassion and care.
"The Gospel has hands and feet."
Restoration & Reintegration
Our goal is not merely relief but restoration — helping individuals move from crisis to stability, from dependency to purpose, from isolation to community.
"We do not simply rescue people; we walk with them toward wholeness."
Disciple-Making Multiplication
Those reached by the Gospel can become those who reach others. We intentionally invest in raising disciples, leaders, and ministers from within the communities we serve.
"The restored become restorers."
Faith-Filled Dependence
We recognise that lasting transformation cannot be achieved by human effort alone. We depend upon the Holy Spirit through prayer, faith, and obedience.

Integrity & Stewardship
We are accountable for the people, resources, and trust God places in our hands. We commit to transparency, excellence, and responsible stewardship.
"Faithfulness is our measure of success."
Why We Go
The Bridging Church is not primarily the result of a strategy or a social initiative. It is a response to the call of Scripture.
The Compassion of Christ
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me... I was in prison and you came to me."
Jesus identifies Himself with the hungry, the stranger, the sick, and the imprisoned. Ministry to vulnerable people is not a secondary concern of the Kingdom — it is one of the ways believers express their love for Christ Himself.
The Mission of Christ
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor..."
At the beginning of His public ministry, Jesus announced a mission directed toward the poor, the brokenhearted, the captive, the oppressed. His ministry consistently moved toward those others avoided. As followers of Christ, we continue that mission.
The Restoration of Communities
"Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness... to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house..."
The prophet reminds God's people that authentic spirituality is expressed through justice, compassion, and restoration — not only worship. This shapes our understanding of ministry as both proclamation and action.
Faith Demonstrated Through Action
"Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
The Gospel is a message that must be proclaimed — and a reality that must be demonstrated. This conviction lies at the heart of our ministry philosophy: The Gospel has hands and feet.
From One Bridge to a Movement
The First Gathering
Rev. Emeka Eze carries a speaker beneath Jakande Bridge in Lagos. The first worship service takes place. Church Under The Bridge is born.
Prison Ministry Begins
Church In The Prison launches across four correctional facilities in Lagos — Kirikiri Medium, Kirikiri Maximum, Kirikiri Female, and Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
Church On The Street Expands
Mobile outreach campaigns begin across Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Oshodi, Jakande–Lekki, and General Paint, Lekki.
Second Location Opens
A second Church Under The Bridge community is established at Pen Cinema, Agege — reaching an entirely new population.
Schools Ministry Launches
Church In The Schools partners with educational institutions, reaching approximately 500 students.
Welfare Impact Deepens
294 medical interventions, 98 families assisted, 240 vocational interventions, 7 housing relocations.
Vision for Restoration Centre
Strategic planning begins for The Bridging Restoration Centre — a residential discipleship facility to provide structured pathways from survival to restoration.
